Hardwired EV charging stations require a dedicated line to your electrical panel.
Plug-in EV charging stations connects to power by inserting the supplied plug into a matching receptacle (an outlet). They have a 240V supply cord that is 12 inches in length. A dedicated outlet is highly recommended for plug-in chargers, and the circuit breaker must be off before plugging and unplugging.
We like to hardwire in EV chargers because there are more minor issues, but the option of plug-in chargers is always open.
